What is a Pediatric Dentist?

A Pediatric Dentist, or Pedodontist is a dental specialist that has completed an extra 2-3 years of training after going to dental school to become a general dentist. This specialty training focuses on learning everything applicable to oral health for infants, children, teens and children with special needs. A child’s growth and development, prevention of decay and gum disease, nutrition, child psychology, dental treatment under sedation and general anesthesia are areas studied usually in a combined University and Hospital Residency Program.
