Services

We provide the following pediatric dental services to children in Milton, Ontario and the surrounding area.

Prevention and Education

Our goal is to prevent dental disease in your child by assessing their risk for dental disease and tailoring an oral hygiene regimen that is reviewed at every check up. We guide every patient to optimal oral health by educating parent and child about diet and oral hygiene. Common risks for dental decay such as “grazing” or increased juice consumption is discussed. Brushing and flossing techniques is reviewed at every visit. Following a “Caries Risk Assessment”, a dental home care guide is reviewed and outlined to child and parent.

Age One Dental Exam

As recommended by the Canadian Academy of Pediatrics and Pediatric Dentistry, children should have their first check up 6 months after their first tooth erupts or by their first birthday. Establishing a “dental home” for children at an early age helps to identify early signs of dental decay and prevent dental disease from occurring. Dental decay is one of the most common infectious diseases in children today.

If a tooth has caries that extends to the nerve it may need treatment that is called a pulpotomy or pulpectomy. The pulpal tissue is cleaned out either in the top of the root canal chamber or in its entirety and a medicament is placed followed by a restoration, usually a full coverage crown.

Sealants

This is a bonded coating that is bonded to the chewing surface of molars to prevent food impaction and ultimately reduce the chance for cavity formation on those surfaces. This type of treatment is well document and studied and has been shown to a tremendous decrease of cavities in children.

Emergency Care

We see patients on the same day with dental emergencies and we provide emergency calls for patients of our clinic after hours when our office is closed.

Digital Radiography

At our clinic we use state of the art digital radiographs (x-rays) which significantly reduce radiation exposure compared to conventional x-rays. We also practice a conservative approach when determining every patient’s need for radiographs.

Sterilization

Milton Pediatric Dentistry follows the Ontario Dental Association Sterilization guidelines to the strictest degree. Our team uses daily biological indicator and culture testing to monitor sterilization efficacy. Biological indicators are the most accepted means of monitoring the sterilization process according to the guidelines set forth by the Ontario Dental Association.

Alternative/Conservative Treatment

Some parents attempt to limit their children’s exposure to medicines and  toxins for medical or other reasons. Should a parent wish to explore options such as limiting or eliminating fluoride or foregoing treatment we can discuss alternatives, risks and benefits. Our goal is to help educate parents about all their options so that they can feel comfortable making the decision that is right for their child.
